IN RECOVERY, A NEW SERIES AND FOLLOW-UP PODCAST TO LEMONADA MEDIA’S LAST DAY, DEBUTS MAY 18

Addiction Expert Dr. Nzinga Harrison Hosts Spin-Off Series on All Things Addiction

New York – May 18, 2020 – In Recovery with Dr. Nzinga Harrison, M.D., the sixth weekly podcast series from the Lemonada Media podcast network and a follow-up to the chart-topping and award-nominated Last Day series, launched today. The new series is hosted by cutting-edge physician, psychiatrist and addiction specialist Dr. Nzinga Harrison, M.D., who appeared in three episodes of Last Day. Dr. Harrison co-founded and serves as Chief Medical Officer of Eleanor Health, a revolutionary, evidence-based, outpatient approach to treatment. With notable compassion, Dr. Harrison seeks to provide support and guidance to those in need for either themselves or their loved ones dealing with the disease of addiction, including types beyond drugs and alcohol. From substances to sex to work, each week Dr. Harrison addresses why addiction should be treated like other chronic medical illnesses and the many complex aspects surrounding treatment and recovery.

The trailer was released on Monday, May 11, with new weekly episodes dropping each Monday. In Recovery is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, Pocket Casts, Google Podcasts, and Castbox, among other platforms.

In Recovery functions like a call-in radio show for a modern audience. Questions come from listeners in the form of emails, voicemails, tweets and, on occasion, one-on-one check-ins with Dr. Harrison, or Nzinga (her preference). There are many complex factors involved with both addiction and treatment, and Nzinga believes in a comprehensive, compassionate, relationship-based approach. Topics include helping families who are dealing with opioid addiction in the age of COVID-19, kids who are struggling with addiction, the link between ADHD and addiction, the prevention of alcoholism, how sex addiction impacts those in committed relationships, and the hidden toxicity of work and exercise addictions, among others. The series is a follow-up to Last Day, which has had nearly two million downloads, was the #1 global-charting podcast on Chartable in February, was nominated for an iHeart Radio Podcast Award, and is a two-time Webby honoree.

“It’s time to stop treating addiction like a character flaw and start treating it like the preventable and highly treatable chronic medical illness it is. You have seen the stats on overdose deaths, but did you know over 22 million people in the U.S. alone are in recovery? I’m looking forward to answering listener questions every week on my new podcast, from a position of compassion and hope, medical evidence and learnings about what works and what doesn’t from nearly 20 years of medical practice.” shares Harrison. “From opioid use during pregnancy to co-existing physical and mental health issues to work and masturbation addictions, we are going there and talking about it all.”

“This show is so needed. When we wrapped season one of Last Day, we were done telling our stories, but listener emails, voicemails and social media engagement related to all sorts of addictions continued to flood in. We couldn’t leave such a dedicated community without a trusted resource,” shares Last Day Host and Lemonada’s Chief Creative Officer, Stephanie Wittels Wachs. “Nzinga is a breath of fresh air in a world that shames and mistreats addiction, and this show is the antidote,” adds Jessica Cordova Kramer, Lemonada’s CEO.

Dr. Harrison is known in the medical and education community, and by the large and engaged Last Day listener community, as having the unique ability to explain medical concepts with an ease and humor that result in her audiences developing a deep understanding of difficult material. She is also compassionate and empathetic in a space that often lacks “bedside manner.” Dr. Harrison, a nationally recognized expert in stigma reduction and advocate for increasing access to care that addresses the medical and psychosocial aspects of addiction and other psychiatric disorders, won the Patient’s Choice Award for online reviews of physicians. Harrison attended Howard University and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
